We love Facebook

How are you finding the new Facebook pages? At Social Mediology we are having some joy and some pain! We are thrilled that our strategy all along when posting on Facebook Pages means that our posts are still showing up on walls. But we’ve had lots of contact from business and charities who are finding their posts are no longer being seen or interacted with.

The new algorithm used by Facebook (called EdgeRank) uses a combination of factors to determine whether your post is seen by your fans/followers. It is estimated that only 40% of commercial posts are actually viewable.

Here are our Top 3 Tips for making sure your post is seen:

1. Post manually not through a program like HootSuite or TweetDeck. Manual posts rate higher than scheduled posts. If you schedule a post through a third party app, it shows the name of the app it has been posted from and Facebook collapse these posts in the newsfeed. It doesn’t hurt to schedule a post every now and then if you can’t do it manually, as your overall ranking should keep your posts being seen.

2. A picture tells a 1000…..Always use an image with your status update. Pictures are ranked higher than text and when you use an image you are more likely to be seen. This is the same for links – don’t ever post just text.

3. Interaction ranks: The more ‘Likes’ and comments your post gets the higher ranking it will be. So ask questions, encourage engagement, evaluate the posts that do well and do more like that. Make sure you respond to people’s questions and comments where appropriate. This is not just common courtesy in social media, but also affects your overall EdgeRank ranking.

Good luck with your ranking and let us know how you go.
