In my recent conversation with Jordan Wilson, the host of the Everyday AI podcast, I had the opportunity to hear firsthand about his journey into the world of AI.
Like many of us, Jordan’s experience wasn’t a calculated move; it was more of an accidental discovery. He started with something familiar—digital strategy. But as early as 2020, he began experimenting with AI, not knowing that these early trials with GPT technology would soon reshape the way he approached business.
It’s always an honour to interview someone you deeply admire. Jordan Wilson has been an integral part of my AI journey, as an avid listener of his podcast since the early days! He has helped me challenge some of the ways I approach AI education and integration and it’s always really affirming when I hear his interviews and see that our approach at Social Mediology, is so similar to that of many multi-national companies!
AI as a Tool for Creativity and Innovation
Jordan’s initial foray into AI was driven by a simple need to improve content creation. But as he dug deeper, he realised that AI wasn’t just a tool for making things faster. It had the potential to unlock a whole new level of creativity. He described how learning to use AI properly—understanding how it works and how to guide it—transformed his work. What started as a way to enhance efficiency soon became a gateway to innovation.
One of the most interesting insights from our chat was Jordan’s view of AI as something more than just a productivity booster. He talked about AI as a partner, one that can help us not just do our jobs, but do them better. It’s about finding new ways to be creative, to think bigger, and to achieve more than we could on our own. AI, in his view, is like a collaborator that challenges us to raise our game.
This idea of AI as a partner requires us to rethink how we approach it. Jordan stressed the importance of seeing beyond the immediate benefits of doing things faster or cheaper. Instead, he encouraged looking at how AI can elevate our work, pushing us towards more meaningful and impactful results. It’s not just about getting the job done; it’s about doing it in a way that adds real value.
The Human Side of AI Adoption
As we talked about how AI is changing the workplace, Jordan touched on something that often gets overlooked—the human side of AI adoption. He pointed out that bringing AI into a company isn’t just a matter of installing new software. It’s about people, and how they feel about these changes. Jordan shared that one of the biggest challenges is getting employees to understand why AI is being introduced and what it means for their future. It’s crucial, he said, to have open conversations about these concerns, to help people see AI as a tool that can help them grow rather than something to fear.
Easing the Transition to AI in the Workplace
Jordan also shared a practical approach to easing this transition. He suggested that companies should find AI advocates within their teams—people who are excited about the technology and can help others see its potential. By having these advocates lead the way, companies can make the shift to AI smoother and less intimidating for everyone involved.
Legal and Ethical Challenges in the AI Landscape
Our conversation naturally drifted to the bigger picture—how AI is affecting the world beyond just business. Jordan spoke about the legal and ethical issues that are starting to emerge, especially in areas like copyright and intellectual property. These are complex issues that don’t have easy answers, and they’re going to be a big part of how AI evolves in the coming years. Jordan made it clear that while the laws might be slow to catch up, the impact of these challenges is already being felt, especially by smaller businesses that might struggle to keep up.
The Future of AI
As we wrapped up, Jordan looked ahead to what the next year or so might bring. He predicted that AI is going to get a lot smarter, and fast. He talked about how we’re on the verge of seeing AI systems that can do things we haven’t even imagined yet, like making decisions on their own and handling tasks that usually require human judgement. This, he said, could be a game-changer for businesses of all sizes.
Listening to Jordan, it became clear that the future of AI is full of both promise and uncertainty. There’s a lot to be excited about, but also a lot to think carefully about.
There is so much alignment between my approach to AI integration and Jordan’s. What stuck with me most from our conversation was the reminder that AI isn’t just about technology. It’s about how we, as people, use it and adapt to it. As we move forward, the companies that succeed will be the ones that not only embrace AI but do so in a way that keeps people at the centre of the equation.
